The US apparently threatened the Vatican with military force because the Pope was critical of Trump

      >Days after Pope Leo XIV delivered his State of the World speech, Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby summoned Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the Vatican’s U.S. representative, to a closed-door Pentagon meeting for a bitter lecture.

      >“The United States,” Colby said, according to a blistering new report by The Free Press, “has the military power to do whatever it wants in the world. The Catholic Church had better take its side.”

    2. President Pedophile Protector and his sycophants threatening the Pope?

This is just crazy. Time for the 25th amendment.

Every single day, there’s some story like this that reminds me of a what a stupid time it is to be alive.

Threatening the Pope for calling out Trump for war crimes? I’m an atheist and think that’s beyond the pale.

What the hell is wrong with America? I’m sick to death of their rampant idiocy dominating global headlines, while half of them cheer it on and the other half attempt to distance themselves from it (“I never voted for him!”). Guess what? They’re all the same in the eyes of every other country on the planet.

It’s rare that I will ever defend the pope and the Catholic Church, but this one does seem to be a good guy. Regardless for the president’s goons to threaten a diplomat like that is appalling.

I don’t think this FIFA peace award winning President is really about Peace after all!

    7. I’m strictly agnostic if there’s such a thing.

But like, if there was an antichrist. I don’t know how you get any more blatant short of him having horns on his head.

    8. the vice president just published a book about his conversion to Catholicism. Now he stays silent while the US threatens the pope and Vatican City. What a crazy time we live in.

    9. They brought up the Avignon papacy, which fof those who don’t know was when France *kidnapped the pope* and essentially took control of the Catholic Church.

So uh, yeah I think ol’ Leo is 100% fair to not want to come back until these chucklefucks are gone.

      Like I’m baptist-turned-agnostic and even I’m outraged.

The corrupt US Catholic Church helped Trump get elected (both times) and now, under Leo, they finally see the truth about the Republican corruption and are making amends. They now have my support.

Let’s hope that Leo directs the recalcitrant US bishops to guide their flocks into greener, saner, pastures.

    11. A large portion of Catholics would abandon the pope before turning their back on Trump. What the fuck is wrong with people in this day and age?

What is not being missed but is also not really talked about here is the way this rhetoric is being trial ballooned for any dissent.

It’s not being pushed back on, thus it is not going to get better by the time we have an election. Expect another phase of the coup.

    13. Are we in the 1500s again. One day exclaiming to be fighting a holy war and the next day threatening the papacy.

    14. The overt support the Catholic Church provided to Republicans since John Paul II (and probably before) is part of what drove me away. Francis and Leo have started to right the ship, but Cardinals Listecki and Dolan (especially No Communion for Democrats Listecki) still exist.
Simply put, the recent past of the church is partly to blame for this mess. I would love to hear what the homiles are saying now days…

“That’s a nice little basilica you have there, it would be a shame if something happened to it”

Do we ever get out of this? Do these people pay for their MAGA combination of evil and stupidity. I don’t want the high road. I want justice. I just don’t think it’s possible anymore.

    17. Hardly a surprise this would happen. Hegseth’s KKK pals hate Catholics almost as much as they hate black people. Most evangelicals do.

Well, now here’s something even the fucking Nazis didn’t dare even though they probably had the chance to pull it off.

    19. bruhhhh the us is gonna elect their own pope. mark my words. they are going to challenge the pope and have the “military strength” to back it.

*pope and antipope 6* coming this summer!

    20. I’ve never been Catholic and am not a huge fan of the Catholic Church, but that is an insane move

    21. The Catholics in America are going to have to choose between the pope and trump. I don’t see how they can have both.
